Student from UNIJOS fatally assaulted by classmates due to N30k bribe dispute for grades
Abdulsalam Idris, a 300-level medical student at the University of Jos (Unijos), has tragically passed away after reportedly sustaining severe injuries in an assault allegedly perpetrated by a group led by another student identified as Fisal Dahiru Ibrahim.
As reported by the Daily Trust, the student succumbed to his injuries in the institution’s clinic on Thursday, April 4, 2024.
The confirmation of the death came from Unijos’ security unit, stating that the body had been transferred to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for autopsy.
Agama Solomon, the acting Chief Security Officer of Unijos, disclosed that the suspect claimed to have given Abdulsalam N30,000 to bribe a technician for exam grades.
However, upon the release of the results, and the suspect’s subsequent failure, it is alleged that he orchestrated an attack resulting in Abdulsalam’s demise.
Solomon added that the suspect had been apprehended and handed over to the police.
The incident reportedly occurred shortly after both the victim and the suspect completed their final examination in the 300L.
Abdulsalam’s death has raised concerns among his peers, who believe that such a violent outcome was unjustified. Many feel that he did not deserve to be subjected to treatment that ultimately led to his demise.
