A man and a woman have been arrested following the discovery of a newborn baby, umbilical cord still attached, abandoned in a dustbin.

A man and a woman have been apprehended following the discovery of a deceased newborn baby boy in a bin.

The woman, believed to be the infant’s mother, is facing charges for failing to report a death in connection with the distressing incident in South Florida, USA, which occurred in January.

Her accomplice is charged with the same offense, along with illegal disposal of a body.

Discovered on January 7 by a worker from a roofing company who noticed a foul odor outside an apartment complex, the full-term baby boy, with his umbilical cord still attached, was found inside a reusable shopping bag within the trash bin. The worker promptly alerted the authorities, as outlined in a Hollywood police affidavit.

Using video surveillance footage to trace the owner of a vehicle that stopped beside the trash bin, and subsequently employing text messages exchanged between the man and woman, along with DNA samples extracted from the shopping bag, police managed to locate the mother.

An autopsy revealed no signs of trauma or injury on the baby, according to the affidavit. The final cause of death is pending further testing to ascertain whether the baby was born alive or stillborn.
