The Imo State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the murder of legal practitioner Garricks Anyanwu in the state.

According to ASP Henry Okoye, the spokesperson of the command, Anyanwu was killed a week before the disclosure on Tuesday, April 9, 2023. His body was discovered in his hometown of Orodo, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state, by suspected assassins.

The decomposing body was found in a bush four days after he went missing. The spokesperson assured that an official statement would be issued upon the completion of the investigation.

Anyanwu’s family, who approached the police with an affidavit, aimed to recover his remains for immediate burial. He is scheduled to be laid to rest on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

This unfortunate incident follows the murder of Nnaemeka Ugboma, a magistrate and ex-Chairman of the Obudiagwa Customary Court in the Oguta Local Government Area of the state.

Ugboma was shot dead by gunmen on February 2, 2023, while presiding over a court session.

The assailants, reportedly riding motorcycles, identified him as their target before fatally shooting him.
