Police arrested one individual as they raided a hideout belonging to bandits in Abuja.
In a proactive move against banditry within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), operatives of the FCT Police Command conducted a raid on a kidnappers’ hideout situated in Jibi forest, adjacent to Dei-dei in Abuja.
One suspect was apprehended during the operation.
SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed this development in a statement issued on Monday, March 25, 2024.
The raid, which took place on March 23, 2024, at approximately 06:00 AM, was prompted by credible intelligence indicating that the bandits, under the leadership of Mallam Danyaboi and Ilu, were planning a retaliatory kidnapping following the arrest of some of their members. During the raid, firearms and cattle were seized from the camp as exhibits.
“On sighting police operatives, the bandits fled from their hideouts to escape arrest,” the statement read.
“The crime prevention operation was carried out on the heels of credible intelligence that one Mallam Danyaboi and Ilu, gang members and colleagues to one Nasiru Mohammed A.K.A. Danger, who was earlier arrested and paraded by the Police Command on March 11, 2024, in connection with a series of kidnappings in FCT, had planned a reprisal kidnapping attack in Zuba and its environs for the arrest of their members.
“Exhibits such as firearms and cows were recovered from the camp. While intensive crime prevention patrols are already in place to forestall any intended kidnapping in the area, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, wishes to reassure residents of his commitment to ensuring the safety of all and sundry.
“He urges residents to report suspicious activities through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883; CRU: 09022222352.
